Our philosophy is simple: "follow the fishing". With so many world-class fisheries in one state, why handicap yourself to only one? Oarsmen Road Trips are designed around a flexible schedule. Over the course of a five day trip we might easily fish three, four, or even five different fisheries. The goal is to find the best fishing in the state without getting bogged down by logistics. If conditions change, and they always seem to here in Big Sky country, we're off to the next spot. We rely on a network of fishing comrades stretched across the state for up to the minute information, and our years of experience to wade through tricky logistics like the small cafe that opens early and serves the meanest eggs benedict in the country, or the guest house with the comfortable beds and access to private spring creeks.

Oarsmen Road Trips are all-inclusive. One price covers everything for TWO ANGLERS from four days of guided fishing to all transportation, lodging, and meals. We take care of all the reservations, transfers, and logistics. Your guide will meet you at the airport on day one, and take it from there.

Each year there is a window of time between the cold and snow of winter and the raging waters of spring when Montana’s trout streams come alive. In the lower river valleys the snow has all melted, and the rivers are low and clear. Trout gorge on the season’s first baetis and caddis hatches long before the crowds of summer arrive.

Travel with us to rivers like the Madison, Ruby, Gallatin, Missouri, Yellowstone, Stillwater, and Spring Creeks to find the best kept secret in Montana fly fishing.

July, August, and September - The Glory Days of Summer. This is prime-time in Montana. At no other time do we have more fishing options. And, at no other time is it more important to have a flexible schedule.

This is the time when our Road Trips truly shine. Early morning spinner-falls. Late night caddis-floats. Long afternoon hopper-floats. Check. Check. Check.

We're not tied down by a lodge schedule. We have our cocktail hour on the tailgate. "What's that you say?"...."They're eating hoppers on the Yellowstone?"..."We'll be there in the morning."..."Say Fellas, wanna catch some big fish on big dries?... Ever heard of Chico?"

As our season winds to an end the only thing that can match the beauty of Montana’s snow capped peaks, brilliant aspens, and golden fields are the awesome colors of our fall brown trout and the thrill of our late baetis hatch.

Baetis Mayflies and Brown Trout are at the epicenter of fall fishing in Montana. As the cold, skuzzy weather of late September and October descends upon us brown trout turn from sedentary terrestrial eaters to migratory carnivores. All of our major rivers have healthy populations of brown trout, and each fall these fish become more and more aggressive as they prepare to spawn providing endless streamer fishing opportunities. It’s not all about the big stuff, though. Our last major insect emergence of the season might be one of the smallest mayflies, but it can hatch in such great numbers that it will leave fish and fisherman alike in awe.

We spend our fall chasing baetis hatches and big gnarly browns on rivers like the Jefferson, Ruby, Missouri, Gallatin, Yellowstone, and Madison.
