Meet The Oarsmen 

Steve Hoovler

 Steve owns and operates Oarsmen Expeditions. He’s called West Yellowstone home for nearly fifteen years. Before that he grew up fishing in Pennsylvania. Summers during college were spent working for Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone. After college, Steve went on to become a partner at Blue Ribbon and manage the shop for eight years. In addition to fishing and guiding extensively throughout Montana, Idaho, and Yellowstone Park, he has spent a great bit of time fishing in Belize, Mexico, the Bahamas, and Florida for bonefish, tarpon, snook, redfish, and his favorite, permit. When he’s not out guiding, Steve loves to fish with his wife Sara, until she shows him up, and then he doesn’t like that any more. Outside of fishing, Hoovler’s an avid back country skier, and he loves following his bird dog “Goose” around in the Fall.

Steve is the Oarsmen Trip Leader for Yellowstone Pack Trips, Belize Trips, and Bahamas Trips. He works with the rest of the gang on Daily Trips, Road Trips, and tags along on Argentina Trips.

Pat Bond

Pat owns West Yellowstone based Lost Fork Outfitters (Montana Outfitter #7887), and guides for Arrick’s Fly Shop.
Pat is a pro team member with Ross Reels, RO Driftboats and Whiting Hackle Farms. He has fished extensively throughout the western US, Central America and New Zealand. He spends his winters chasing redfish in Titusville Florida, and sailing to the Bahamas.

Joe Moore

Joe Moore owns and operates Big Sky Anglers in West Yellowstone. (Montana Outfitter #8939) He’s been working in the fly fishing business for the last 14 years and guiding clients on the Madison, Gallatin, Missouri, Yellowstone and all the waters of Yellowstone National Park for the past 10 years. Both Ross Reels and R.L. Winston Fly Rods have asked him to join their Professional Staff of anglers. Montana Fly Company sells a few of the patterns that he has designed for various river throughout Montana.

Justin Spence

Justin grew up in Northern Idaho on the banks of the Clearwater River. Later he moved to Guatemala where he learned fluent Spanish. Justin eventually returned to the states and earned degrees in Sociology and Spanish from the University of New Mexico. He and his wife Rachel currently split their time between West Yellowstone, MT and San Martin De Los Andes, Argentina. Justin has been in the fly fishing industry for over 10 years and enjoys it more now than ever. Justin is the co-owner of the West Yellowstone based West Yellowstone Fly Shop.

Justin is the Oarsmen Trip Leader for Argentina Trips. He also guides on Oarsmen’s Daily Trips and Road Trips.
